Product Description

SCI FLIES TROUT RHODES RIVER

The SCI FLIES Trout Rhodes River Fly Pack by ScientificFly is a carefully selected collection of high-performance flies designed for targeting wild trout in the clear-running streams of Rhodes and the Barkly East region of the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The pack combines proven dry flies, terrestrials, and brass-beaded nymphs, providing a versatile selection for technical river fishing and classic dry-dropper presentations. Tied on premium Grip Hooks, these patterns are designed to cover a range of common trout food sources and changing river conditions.

Fly Pack Breakdown

1. Hare's Ear Parachute – Natural

Type: Dry Fly

A versatile general-purpose mayfly imitation with a highly visible parachute profile. The natural colour provides a realistic presentation, while the parachute design offers reliable flotation and improved visibility when fishing broken or faster-moving water.

2. Elk Hair Caddis – Cream

Type: Dry Fly

A proven high-floating caddis imitation that can also suggest small stoneflies and other adult insects. The cream colour is particularly effective when lighter-coloured caddis are present, while the buoyant construction makes it an excellent choice for surface presentations and dry-dropper rigs.

3. Foam Wing Hopper – Yellow

Type: Terrestrial

A highly buoyant grasshopper imitation designed for late-summer terrestrial fishing. The yellow profile provides good visibility, while the foam construction helps the fly remain afloat and makes it well suited to supporting a weighted nymph as a dropper.

4. Black Gnat – Black

Type: Dry Fly

A small, subtle surface pattern for situations where trout are feeding selectively on tiny gnats, midges, or spent insects. Its dark profile provides a natural presentation during focused surface feeding and low-profile hatch situations.

5. Prince Nymph (BB) – Natural

Type: Nymph

A classic attractor nymph combining a natural profile with additional flash to draw attention. The Brass Bead (BB) adds weight, helping the fly penetrate the current and reach deeper feeding trout in pockets, runs, and pools.

6. PTN (BB) – Natural

Type: Nymph

The classic Pheasant Tail Nymph is an excellent general imitation of mayfly nymphs. The brass-beaded version provides additional weight, allowing the fly to sink toward the riverbed where trout commonly feed on drifting aquatic insects.

7. GRHE Flash Back (BB) – Black / Natural

Type: Nymph

A Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ear variation featuring a flashback panel that adds contrast and attraction. The buggy profile makes it a versatile searching nymph, while the brass bead helps it reach deeper water. Particularly useful in deeper pools, stronger currents, or slightly discoloured water.
